Movie Review: Coraline

Coraline is a story about an 11 year old girl who moves into a new apartment with her parents. They were so busy wtih their stuff that they're already neglecting her. She was so unhappy coz her parents were intent and totally ignoring her. So with nothing to do, she explored the house and found a tiny door. She goes through the doorway and follows a passage to a house that looks just like her own home. She discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life but only much better! There's even a mom-her other mom! and a dad called the other father. They look exactly like her real parents except they had buttons sewn in their eyes. In that world, everything is so perfect..her parents feed her and gives her anything she desires.. until one day her counterfeit parents tried to keep her forever, her dreams becomes a realistic nightmare and she must do something to get back home.

The story is based on a novel by Neil Gaiman and was directed by Henry Selicks. I had no intention on watching this until i heard that this movie is the same director of "Nightmare before Christmas" plus a 3D stop motion. As a fan of Henry Slick's previous movie, i decided to give this a try.

Well, the movie is filled with magic and cool effects that will surely keeps the audience entertained. I don't know about the target audience on this one, some scenes are quite frightening that children would piss in their pants! I would say that this is the most scariest animated film that I've watched. And it was so creepy that they have buttons as eyeballs?! but i really enjoyed the dark and the twisted images on this film, that somewhat caught my attention coz i always had a facination with that kind of things. This movie is not your average type of cartoons, Henry Selick's has taken this stop motion animation to a whole new level. This is a fantastic movie, script is well written and the story line is good. The voice actors were great especially "Dakota Fanning" who voiced Coraline. They really bring out the characters that the visual design is presenting on screen. I really wish i could watched it on 3-D cause it will definetely be an experience! An imaginative twisted tale that would not dissapoint viewers in all ages.
